I was just chatting with my good buddy Dave Minchala about a recent change I saw in Google Maps (tl;DR HotelFinder is now integrated into it for me). A big long tweet chain started that brought in the heavy hitters of Local Search. Dave said:
@dohertyjf forehead slapping moment: have a custom search engine that includes @edmontonseo @mblumenthal @nyagoslav and @adamgsteele blogs
— David C. Minchala (@daveminchala) September 19, 2012
That got me thinking – why not build it and share it? And while I’m at it, why not do it for the blogs that I know and trust and always go to for more information?
So here are two custom search engines for you to do just that.
Best SEO Blogs Custom Search Engine
The SEO blogs that I trust are:
- seogadget.co.uk
- www.blueglass.com.com
I’m always referencing these and have never had a good way to search just them. So, here is a Custom Search Engine for you to use that searches just these blogs using a site: search:
What’s Happening?
Basically I have taken all of the effort out of searching a set of trusted sites for information you may need. The blogosphere is noisy, so I’ve tried to help you out by having this custom search engine add only the most relevant and trusted sites in the SEO sphere. Of course, this is in my own opinion, and I may choose to add or remove certain sites.
What you will find with this custom search engine is when you search for a specific topic, such as [author rank], you will be returned the results ranked by Google’s algorithm for just those sites. Note: if you are logged in, you will still see the domain crowding that we have all been experiencing in the search results.
Here is an example of a search using the custom search engine:
And here is the search results page broader in Google:
Google’s search has gotten better in the past few months with Penguin, and good information is actually being found now in the search results, but these are the sites where I implicitly trust the information, so they are where I will send newcomers to the industry to learn.
Enjoy!

Really cool, thanks again!
Matt
Haha it was all Dave! I just asked permission to publish it. Stay tuned tomorrow for the Best Local SEO blogs custom search engine.
Really smart idea! I like how you tied in the keyword targeting of “best SEO blogs” – this is the most unique way I’ve ever seen something like that done.
Cheers dude. I thought that might be a good move on my part. There are some heavy hitters in there, so I might need to keep updating this to keep the links coming in 🙂
This could be a useful tool. Good idea Dave. Thanks for building it John.
WOW! Bravo! You just made the life of many SEO folks easier. Great idea.
Thanks for the post. I always try to stay on top of the SEO topics and these are some great blogs. Love it!
Great list, I use many suggestions and tips from these experts on my Local SEO Blog.
A great idea and I’m very flattered to be included. Thank you.
You deserve it, AJ!
John, are you taking suggestions for other blogs to be included (of course your editorial judgement will have the final say)? I’m still flabbergasted that my blog made this short list, but I do think there are a couple others worth at least being in the conversation of being added.
Cheers and thanks again for including mine! 😀
Hey Jon – I’m always down for suggestions, but like I say the final decision is mine. I added a few more today. Feel free to email me suggestions – dohertyjf at gmail dot com.
Enjoyed! Superb. That’s what we call; not missing even a single great idea you get. Cheers!
Bookmarked! Thanks for putting this together.
I have been using this tool to find all the seo stuff i want to research about. Thanks for making the list. However it seems to pulling results mostly from your site??? Did you change the code or something to first show results from your site and then from other sites?
Great idea, definitely have this bookmarked for future.
Would love to know your bookmark style … because after some time my bookmark list (on firefox) its messy …
