Google Showing Official Sites in Instant Search

This morning I was doing some searches for a client using some common websites and I saw this when searching for “Facebook Login”:

This is also happening with Twitter:

But not with SEOmoz:

Or SearchEngineLand:

I don’t know if this is a test or not. Are others seeing it? It definitely seems that Google is giving preference to these brands even more now, potentially so that others have a harder time getting organic traffic from ranking for these site branded terms?

Are you seeing this?

  1. Hi John,
I believe that what you have seen is maybe one of the many Google’s tests.
Personally, I tried to replicate your discovery, but I don’t see any link in the suggest.
Check out the last post by Danny Sullivan (http://searchengineland.com/googles-results-get-more-personal-with-search-plus-your-world-107285 ), which has a part that recall your discovery.

  2. Starting the countdown until we see paid ads in the Google suggest box…

  3. I wasn’t able to recreate it, but I’m seeing a “I’m Feeling Lucky” CTA next to the suggestions that takes you right to the site.

  4. Are you logged in? It has been happening to me for a while now when I’m logged in.
